“Engineer By (HE)Art

Taking up Engineering and pursuing a career of contrast! Sounds like a Chetan Bhagat story, doesn’t it?

Having said that, Gowtham has done this with a twist by going after his proclivity for art.

Taking you through 5 things with Gowtham, an Engineer by (HE)Art.

1. Why Art as a career option?

My undivided interest towards art and the naysayers’ words, “Art cannot win you bread”! When it turned out to be an intriguing career option, I started with Wall Art for commercial and residential spaces and Art from scratch using scraps and raw materials.

Art for awareness is also my pursuit.

2. Is ‘Walk for Plastic’ an art for awareness?

Yes, it is. Any environmental issue to our society is a shot in the dark. I wanted to involve people in an activity through which I can demonstrate them the peril of plastics to the environment. Through this walk, we collected tonnes of recyclable plastics. It was so candid that people went on self-realization mode about plastic wastes polluting our environment.

3. A Corona Helmet! Really?! How did you come up with that idea? Also, tell me about Corona Scarecrow and Auto?

Though these were artworks for situational awareness, this time with Coronavirus or COVID 19, I saw a bigger threat to people. The Social Expressionist in me took a bigger leap! With The Corona Helmet I tagged, ‘Stay indoors, Step out for necessities only’. The Scarecrow, Corona Auto and Robot were mapped to Social Distancing and creating general awareness about the Pandemic.

4. How did you make a response to your Naysayers?

Honestly, I had no such intentions per se. I rather wanted my arts and achievements to leave them dumbstruck. The World Humanitarian Drive honored me with an award for my art contribution towards COVID 19 awareness. Some of my portraits even reached the hands of celebs like Hip Hop Tamizha Aadhi and Mr. Sagayam IAS. In no time, my follower count spiked up organically and they became my supporters of late.

5. What were the other Social Causes you have painted about?

#HangTheRapist #NoMoreStraw #NoGSTForSanitaryPads #KillerWhale are some of the magnum opuses that made me stand out as a Social Expressionist among renowned artists.
